Megan Alexander, DVM

VETERINARIAN/PRACTICE OWNER
Dr. Alexander earned her DVM from North Carolina State University and joined SVMC shortly thereafter in 2005. Since then, she has provided an exceptional level of care to her patients while never losing sight of the human-animal relationship and bond. Her interests include general surgery, geriatric medicine, and continuous learning in order to provide the best possible service for her patients.
Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with her husband, 2 children, 3 dogs, and 2 fish.

Lindsey Betts, DVM

VETERINARIAN
Dr. Betts is a graduate of Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. She also holds additional degrees in biology and psychology from the College of William & Mary. She strives to provide the best, individualized care for both her patients and their humans. She believes in ensuring that each animal has a fearless experience at the clinic and that educating her clients on diagnosis, disease, and treatment is paramount.
She resides in Yorktown with her husband (a fellow veterinarian), 2 daughters, 3 dogs, 2 cats, and a snake.

Susan Renn, DVM

VETERINARIAN
Dr. Renn grew up on a horse and cattle farm in Hampton, Virginia and received her BS in Biology from Virginia Tech in 1992. She worked for the Companion Animal Blood Bank prior to entering veterinary school at Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine which she completed in 1997. Since then, she has enjoyed small animal private practice focusing on general medicine, wellness, dentistry and soft tissue surgery.
She is an avid outdoor adventurist and enjoys mountain biking, paddle boarding, running and hiking. She also enjoys photography, painting, and spending time with her husband, 2 daughters, dogs Choco & Mick, and 3 cats.

Renee Welch, DVM

VETERINARIAN
Dr. Welch graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine after a career in research. She also has a B.S. in Biology from William & Mary and an M.S. in Biology from Old Dominion University. Pivoting to veterinary medicine because of the desire to help any animal in need, she sees all species including exotics and injured wildlife.
She resides with her husband who helps care for their houseful of rescue animals: 1 beagle mix named Twyla, 4 cats, 1 rabbit, and 2 elderly Amazon parrots along with occasional injured wildlife before transport to rehabilitation.

Sheila Alvey, LVT

VETERINARY TECHNICIAN
Sheila graduated with her Veterinary Technician License from ____ in ____. She joined the SVMC team in ____ and has been with us ever since. Over the years she has provided exceptional care to all patients, assisting with surgery + anesthesia monitoring, hospital care, and making sure her patients feel safe and loved each visit.
When she’s not at the clinic, she enjoys camping and traveling with her husband and hanging out with her motley crew of dogs, cats, birds, goats, horses, and more.
Amanda Kern, LVT

VETERINARY TECHNICIAN
Amanda started at SVMC as a Veterinary Assistant while attending Penn Foster to earn her Veterinary Technician degree. She received her License in 2018, and has continued to excel in her patient care and advocacy. She often assists in surgery + anesthesia monitoring, leads our Medical Team, and is continually expanding her Veterinary knowledge through Continuing Education and other learning opportunities.
She shares a home with her pup Dutch and kitty boy Sasquatch, who provide endless entertainment and constant subject matter for her photography.
